Week 2 May 28th to June 3rd MdR

Promises, promises.

A week for getting all the tradesmen to the boat but little action and variable weather. You learn that MdR operates to “island time” MdR 5 min means 4 hours, before lunch means sometime that day, today means this week some time. A lot of time wasted when you need to be on the boat waiting for people who don’t turn up and so you can’t go and do touristy things like see the surrounding countryside. Interestingly even though so far behind in work the yard does not work weekends.  One benefit of that is we can’t get in either so have to go and do other things – brunches, dinners, sightseeing.

Hull progress – Hulls washed with fresh water each day until Thursday to get rid of the salt and assist drying– should have been done the week before. Still could not get the moisture content in the inside port hull down low enough so drilled holes to help dry out the sandwich.

Electrical man – looked at bow thruster and admitted it was not working (which we already knew) took it out and into the workshop for repairs – waiting on spares. Looked at the dead battery decided it had died (which we already knew) so said he would be back with a helper to take it out – nothing seen – battery still in boat and now waiting on new battery.

Awaiting refrigeration man – multiple promises of times but no show, still waiting…..

Engine overhaul man on boat for 5 mins, decided he needed impellors then left to order them – not seen for rest of the week.

The engine overhaul, bow thruster and battery, and the refrigeration could all have been done over the 3 months since Hew was last here. The comment is that “they are all small jobs and easy” . But will require the ordering of parts which you cannot get here and take at least a week sometimes two.

Hew, removed anchor that the previous owners bent and needed to be straightened.

Down time was spent on the beach in the weekend and trying some of the cafes. Note that they lifeguards here only have a row boat and you have to know the “right people” to get the job but do not have to have any training as we would do in NZ. Hew needed a seat on the beach he decided but broke it the first day it was used so the next day retired to the loungers:)

Still spring here and not many visitors around but many more in the weekend as it was Republic Day.
